PCOS and my experience.

I have never spoken on social awareness before but I think this is important to spread. They say, 'you can only know one's pain when you experience it.' As someone who has PCOS or PCOD. That is 'Polycystic Ovary Syndrome or Disease', I need to tell you first that it's normal to have such a syndrome and you will be fine. Don't you worry. So here I am going to share my experience with PCOS. I don't think anyone would love to hear it so I will just sprinkle some knowledge about PCOs on you all.

What is PCOs?

It's a syndrome wherein (not tryna scare you) a cyst is developed in the ovary (this is what my doc told me) which makes women miss their periods or have irregular periods, prolonged periods. But chill. Not everyone has a cyst. But some cases do.

What's the cause?

Overweight. You can search on Google and you will get a list of things that leads to PCOS but as a teenager, it's because of excess weight.

What's the cure?

Sadly there's no cure for it till date, but it can be controlled by lifestyle changes. What I was told was to lose weight. Medicines can work. But lose weight only if one's wants to. No compulsion here. Eat healthy. That can do too.

My story.

I was much too overweight till 10th Std. Honestly, if you would have asked me what's my weight back in 2019. I would have been awkward, uncomfortable, embarrassed to tell it. But I tell you now. I was 69 kgs.  I am telling you this today openly cause I have reduced the weight. A massive reduction you can say.  Ahh! We got off track. So where was I? I was in 10th. Our boards were postponed for two months. I was bored. Yet overweight and I had my period in March so it was nothing to worry about. In April. I started exercising. Believe me, I followed a 6 Min video every day for one month. I kept the consistency. The results? I came from 69 to 62kgs. But the unfortunate thing was yet to happen. I didn't get my period for 4 months. I got worried.

Me and my mom went to a nearby local clinic. Probably that's the reason why I am writing this today. So, I went to the clinic. There was a nurse who was the assistance of the doctor.

She asked, ' What happened?'

My mom replied, 'My daughter hasn't got her period for 4 months.'

She asked, 'How old is she?'

Mom replied, '16 years.'

She said, 'Let's do the pregnancy test.'

I was standing outside. My mom came and told me this. Believe me. I was pissed off like hell! I mean seriously. This is what happens, people don't know about PCOs.

We decided to go to the city hospital. We went there and then there I came to know I had PCOs. The doctor said, 'it might be because of being overweight. Almost 90℅ girls get this syndrome. A common case which has no cure.' What? It has no cure? Damn. I was disheartened. She even said there's a small cyst developed on my ovary. She gave me the medicine. I was very afraid. But my mom said, 'It's okay, you will get your periods and that cyst won't cause anything.'

That was it. I got periods after a month. I was happy. Never thought getting my period would ever make me happy.

Today I am writing this because I have missed my periods and I know it's because of PCOs. The nurse incident made me realise how little we know about PCOs.

The world needs to know about it. The world needs to talk about Periods openly.

About Sanitary Pads openly. WE NEED THAT.

If only one woman can be the best support is of another woman. Let me frame this PCOS as

Periods Coming, Ovary Satisfied.
